Seller Testimonials

Melissa Thomas | College Park, MD

With Ken's help, this was the easiest possible transaction. I had to move out of state to a new job and sell the house from a distance. The house needed work. Ken was organized and diligent, kept track of work at the house, stopped by and took and sent pictures, was on the lookout for things that could go wrong, and was always responsive, even outside of business hours. Thanks, Ken.

I chose Ken Montville to list and sell my mother's condominium in Beltsville, MD. She had just passed away and a lot of work needed to be done to get the place sale ready. Ken took care of getting a painter, someone to install carpet, and a cleaning crew to make sure that the place was move-in ready and showed well on the day it went on the market. It only took about a week to sell it. I've known Ken for more than 30 years and have always found him to be honest, understanding, and helpful. He will give you all the options available for the sale of your property, not just the options that would be easiest for him. We've known a lot of his customers and they all have been very satisfied with his work. He even put us in touch with an agent in West Virginia when we were searching for a property there. He's a great communicator and will always keep his clients "in the loop." You can't go wrong with Ken!

My wife and I met Ken about twelve years ago. We were looking for a house in the College Park area and were lucky enough to pick Ken as our real estate agent. He helped us a lot in finding that house, but we never felt pressured by him during the process. What could have been a stressful event became exciting and pleasant. I've sent my sister and another friend to him when they needed a real estate agent. And when we sold that house in College Park, we had Ken put it on the market. If you want a professional to help with any aspect of buying or selling a house, you can't do better than him.

He is thorough, technologically-savy, timely, and a delight to work with. He priced the house perfectly and had it prepared such that it sold in only two days. I've known Ken a few years through a volunteer organization that we both have been involved with, Rotary.  Knowing that he worked in Prince Georges County I felt he would be knowledgeable about selling our property in Glenn Dale.  I'm quite pleased to say that we made the right choice.  He did a very good job of outlining the home selling process in the beginning and, most importantly, he continued to work closely with us and inform us as the selling process unfolded.  We felt very comfortable with the transaction and, to a large extent, that was because we felt comfortable with Ken.  I will gladly recommend him to any of my friends that are either looking for a new home or selling their existing home.

I wholeheartedly endorse Ken Montville as a local real estate expert. He is very knowledgeable about the area and also all aspects of the process. I give Ken particular kudos for understanding the importance of staging and creating an online presence for homes he is representing on the market. He provided great service in this area while also respecting my boundaries of what I was willing to invest in the staging process. He was also very good at presenting offers including the pros and cons and details. Overall, I was very satisfied with the communication and working relationship we established that led to the sale of my home.

When we were getting ready to sell our house in College Park, MD, we interviewed three real estate agents. The first two agents were “A”-rated on Angie’s List. We interviewed a third agent (Ken Montville with RE/MAX United Real Estate) on the basis of his mailings on real estate activity within the community. We asked all three agents two basic questions: (1) how much should we ask for the house and (2) what do we need to do to get the house ready to be put on the market?

1. One A-rated agent provided extensive comparison costs from many neighborhoods in College Park and for a range of listing/sales dates. His recommendation for a listing price was quite high. The other A-rated agent came relatively unprepared having no relevant comps but a very extensive resume and no price recommendation. Ken Montville came with a preliminary flyer on our property with a beautiful photo and description of the house and yard – clearly a result of his being very familiar with the neighborhood. His price recommendation seemed reasonable based on his experience and recent sales in the neighborhood.

2. All three agents pointed out areas for removing clutter to help the house show. The two A-rated agents recommended removing most all furniture before listing the house so that potential buyers could see open space and visualize their own furnishings in place. One of the A-rated agents noted that kitchen, bath, and carpets were dated and was adamant that all carpets be removed to show the hardwood floors underneath the carpet and that the hardwood floors be refinished.  Ken Montville seemed to take a pragmatic approach, pointing out how well maintained the house was and suggesting a minimum strategic amount of furniture be removed; his recommendations enabled us to focus on just the work needed to prepare the house for sale.

When we contracted with Ken Montville to list the house, he brought in a professional photographer who took pictures inside and outside the house and created attractive web pages and a virtual tour. By comparison, both of the A-rated agents did mention taking pictures for the internet but one indicated that a professional photographer would be hired if we would increase the real estate agent fee by 1%!

Within a few days of listing the house we had several offers, some low, some close to list price. Ken suggested that we ask all the potential buyers for their “best and final” offer. As a result of this recommendation, we were able to accept an offer that was slightly higher than our original asking price.

During the process of preparing the house for listing, evaluating offers, making the house available for the home inspection and radon evaluation, and finally closing on the house, Ken Montville was proactive in keeping us apprised of status and was responsive to our many questions. In addition, he was constantly vigilant in representing our interests and in ensuring that the sale of our house proceeded smoothly.

For his experience, actions, attitude, and results, we highly recommend Ken Montville. He is straightforward and always demonstrates that he has his clients’ interests as his highest priority.

Ken Montville is a pro's pro. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a home where we lived or any other development. My calls were returned promptly and was extremely helpful and was prepared to answer any question I presented. During the waiting period for my buyer to get their mortgage loan, some issues developed and Ken provided expert knowledge as to what options I had as a seller, as well as recommendations for me to make an appropriate decision.

Anyone that engages Ken services would be highly rewarded as I was. It was a pleasure dealing with him.

Ken Montville sold my house in Maryland. He is professional and knowledgeable about both the market and the tons of paperwork that comes with the sell of a property. He is also down to earth, brings the " legal speak " that is in the paperwork to a level that makes sense.

It is a real pleasure to be able to recommend Ken Montville from RE/MAX United Real Estate. Ken helped my wife and I purchase our first home, in University Park, Maryland, in the summer of 2010. Ken was extremely helpful to us as first-time homebuyers, providing us with comprehensive guidance through all aspects of the purchasing process. He was always courteous and professional and did a fantastic job of showing us a variety of properties in neighborhoods which were within our budget. Ken has a wealth of knowledge about the local real estate market and the various communities in central Maryland. If I ever buy another home in central Maryland I would want to have Ken Montville again as my realtor.

Julie & Doug Dahmer | Silver Spring, MD

We chose Ken to help us sell our home because I'd known him a very long time and knew he was good with details and also would take a pragmatic approach to our home sale. His hardest job was making us realize what the post-bubble market value of our home was so we would list the home at a goal-oriented price. To convince us, he took the extra step of hiring an independent appraiser with long knowledge of our neighborhood. With this "second opinion," we felt comfortable (if not happy) with the list price we agreed on.

Ken also brought in a stager early on, when we were in the process of choosing paint colors as part of repairing and fixing up the home to sell. She advised us on rearranging furniture to make spaces look larger and this helped us decide what to store and what to sell. The stager also came by the day before the house went on the market to arrange everything just so, before the photographer arrived. We had owned the home 24 years and had continuously updated it, so it compared favorably to other homes in our neighborhood in features and appearance.

We put the house on the market during a busy househunting week and, with the home priced well and looking like a magazine spread, we got several offers within days--despite having a highway under construction directly behind the house, with its loud machinery banging the whole time people were looking at the house. (We had about 45 visits in 4 days.) Then Ken helped us evaluate the offers and guided us through the rest of the sale process. He also recommended an excellent mover for our interstate move.

I would recommend Ken Montville as a realtor for anyone buying or selling a home in the DC area. He is professional, knowledgeable, detail-oriented, calm, and good at communicating, both with his clients and other realtors.
